Tony Clifton is a fictional character created by comedian Andy Kaufman in the late 1970s. Clifton appeared to many as simply an abusive lounge singer that sometimes opened for the comedian. But in reality, there was more to it than that.

A study published in 2004 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (abstract available online at [1] tried to discover why the beneficial and detrimental effects of coffee are conflicting and found that consumption of coffee is associated with significant elevations in biochemical markers of inflammation. This is a detrimental effect of coffee on the cardiovascular system which may explain why coffee has so far only been shown to help the heart at levels of 4 or less cups a day (20oz or less).
