Shoji Kawamori is a renowned mecha designer, having received awards even from Japanese industries and companies.

At 29, through his teaching, he met (Caroline) Alice Roberts, a Major-General's daughter (shades of Gilbert and Sullivan) and an author of verse and prose fiction. He married her three years later against the wishes of her family, giving her as an engagement present the short violin and piano piece Salut d'amour.

In more recent years, anime has also frequently been referred to as manga by many, a practice that probably stems from the Japanese usage. In Japan, manga refers to both animation and comics. Among English speakers, manga usually has the stricter meaning of Japanese comics.
